Mae Bertha (Schmidt) Mitchell, age 87, of Wood Lake, MN passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Granite Manor in Granite Falls, MN surrounded by her family. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be held from 4 – 6 PM on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the church with a prayer service at 5:45 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Mae Bertha Mitchell was born on November 22, 1924 to Richard and Bertha (Kruse) Schmidt in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake and graduated from the Wood Lake School District in 1942. After graduation, Mae moved to Minneapolis and attended the Minneapolis School of Business graduating in 1944. While in Minneapolis, she worked as a secretary until 1947 when she returned home to the Wood Lake area. On December 21, 1947, Mae was united in marriage to Charles Mitchell at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. They made their home in the Wood Lake area where Mae was a Homemaker and also assisted her husband on the farm. Mae was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake where she was active with the Ladies Aid. Mae enjoyed gardening, fishing and going camping at R.V. parks. She also enjoyed going on outings with her girlfriends for meals and entertainment and looked forward to playing cards with the group on Tuesdays. Mae also loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great – grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. On Monday, November 19, 2012, Mae passed away at the Granite Manor in Granite Falls surrounded by her loving family at the age of 87. Mae is survived by her one daughter, Barb (Del) Bresson of Hanley Falls, MN; two grandchildren, Jenny (Jon) Waller of Granite Falls, MN and Brian Bresson of Hanley Falls, MN; three great – grandchildren, Charles, Laila and Layton Waller; one sister, Pearl Hempel of Granite Falls, MN; and sisters – in – law, Sara, Beverly, Betty, Lorene and Mary. Her parents, husband Charles, three brothers, William, Awaldt and Arthur Schmidt, five sisters, Lorena, Lydia, Ida, Ella and infant sister Hulda, five brothers – in – law, Ernest, Henry, Ervin, Walter and Ray preceded her in death.
