Donald "Doc" Alexander Georgius

Donald “Doc” A. Georgius, age 88, of Wabasso, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Wabasso. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the church. Burial will be in the New Avon Salem cemetery in rural Wabasso. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Compassionate Care Hospice or Hospice of your choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. Donald “Doc” Alexander Georgius was born on June 1, 1924 to Amandus and Ella (Datwyler) Georgius on the family farm near Rowena, Minnesota. He went to country school in Rowena and attended Wabasso Public School. He was baptized in the Christian faith at New Avon Evangelical Church. In 1944, Doc entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 30, 1950, Doc was united in marriage to Elaine Schraffran at the Johnsonville Lutheran Church in rural Lucan, Minnesota. They made their home on the family farm near Wabasso where he farmed his whole life. In 1988, they moved into Wabasso but Doc continued to help out on the farm for many more years. Doc was an active member of the Wabasso American Legion Post #263 and also a member of the Wabasso Lion’s Club. He was a past member of Christ Lutheran Church of Wanda until its closing. He then joined St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wabasso and was an active member until his death. Donald enjoyed farming, fishing, bowling until the age of 88 years old and loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by many. Donald is survived by his two children, Lynn (Jean) Georgius of Ft. Pierce, FL and Barry (Helen) Georgius of Wabasso; one brother, Duane (Edna) Georgius of Mounds View, MN; one sister, Verna O’Brien of Eden Prairie, MN, sister-in-law Audrey Georgius, Pateros, WA; two grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Georgius and Melissa (Randy) Ebnet; three great – grandchildren, Lily and Jasper Georgius and Heidi Ebnet; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. His parents, wife Elaine, two brothers, Clifford and Gordon, and three sisters, Jeanette, Ethel and Lorraine, and brothers-in-law, Willard Lewis, Homer Lee and Richard O’Brien preceded him in death.
