LaVern “Bud” Lloyd Johnson Sr., age 84, of Benson, MN, formerly of Lucan, MN passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Swift County – Benson Hospital in Benson, MN. An outside Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the old Johnsonville Lutheran Church site in rural Lucan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church site. Burial will be held on Wednesday in the church cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the service on Tuesday at the Brauhaus in Lucan. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. LaVern “Bud” Lloyd Johnson Sr. was born on December 23, 1928 to Earl and Elsie (Donner) Johnson on the farm south of Lucan, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Johnsonville Lutheran Church in Johnsonville, Township. He attended Wabasso area public schools and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. After graduation, he continued to help his parents with farming. On September 5, 1949, LaVern was united in marriage to Vivian Schumacher in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They made their home in the Lucan area where LaVern continued to farm. They moved to Arlington, Minnesota for a few years where he worked as a bookkeeper at the Ford Dealership. After a few years in Arlington, they decided to move back to the Lucan area where LaVern began to work for Bud Hayes Ford in Tracy, and then at International of Tracy until moving on to his parents farm south of Lucan and going to work for Heartland Foods in Marshall, MN until he retired in 1994. LaVern enjoyed riding horses in his younger years, dancing, fishing, hunting, card playing, watching television, woodworking, especially making toy boxes for his grandchildren, spending time with his dog, and especially being with his family and friends. On May 22, 2013, LaVern passed away at the Swift County – Benson Hospital in Benson, Minnesota at the age of 84 years old. He is survived by his two children, LaVern (Char) Johnson Jr. of Shakopee, and Colleen Johnson (special friend Allan Zinda) of Benson; two siblings, Lois Schmidt of Renville, and LaVon Good of Starbuck; three grandchildren, Nicole Lightfoot, Brandon Butler (special friend Jessica Reese), and Matthew Butler; (significant other Rachael Pieper) four great-grandchildren, Kyrstin, Karlye, Violet, and Nakitda, his special dog, Tyke Too, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His parents, wife Vivian, brother Lyle, and sister Karen preceded him in death.
