Irene P. Honetschlager, age 82, of Lucan, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory with a parish prayer service being held at 6:30 pm. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Irene Pauline Honetschlager was born on December 1, 1930 to George and Louise (Zins) Salfer in Wabasso, Minnesota, Redwood County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso and also attended St. Anne’s Elementary School. As a young girl, Irene worked for various farm families assisting them with child care and homemaking. On August 4, 1951, Irene was united in marriage to Edmund Honetschlager at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Together, they made their home in the Lucan area where Irene was a Homemaker and Day Care Provider. She was involved with Christian Mother’s, was a Religious Education Teacher, election judge for many years, and was also involved with the Women’s Extension Club. Irene loved cooking and baking, gardening, sewing quilts, loved children, and liked to visit with family and friends. On Sunday, August 4, 2013, Irene passed away at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, Minnesota at the age of 82 years old. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Ann (Emmett) Thomsen of Hendricks, David of Wabasso, Dennis of Redwood Falls, Kevin (Linda) Honetschlager of Marshall, and Geralyn (Lee) Broderius of Glencoe; grandchildren, John (Kristy) Thomsen, Michelle (Nate) Allen, Janet Thomsen (Cory Hanson), Lisa, Adam, and Mark Broderius, Sara (Thomas) Smolensky, Lora Honetschlager, and Eric (fiancé Ashley Krogen) Honetschlager; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Emma Schaefer, Brynnlee Hanson, Aubry Allen,Jett Thomsen, and Weston Smolensky; siblings, Louise (LaVern) Honetschlager, Donald (Julie) Salfer, and Alfred (Florence) Salfer;brother-in-law, Joseph Schouvieller, and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Edmund, parents, two grandchildren, Michael and Mark Thomsen, sister, Justine Schouvieller, and a nephew Stephen Honetschlager preceded her in death. Blessed be her memory.
