Milton W. Sickman, age 89, of Granite Falls, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 28, 2013 at the Granite Falls Manor in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 pm on Monday, September 2, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery, Posen Township. Milton Wallace Sickman was born on December 23, 1923 to William and Grace (Alexander) Sickman on the family farm in Vesta, Minnesota. He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Vesta, MN and attended Country School near Vesta through the 8th grade. He graduated from Echo High School in 1942. After high school, Milton started farming and was called to serve his country in the Occupational Army in Germany from 1944 until 1946. On September 29, 1946, Milton was united in marriage to Mayvis Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso, MN. To this union four children were born. They made their home on a farm near Wood Lake, MN where Milton farmed for 32 years. Milton was also an Auctioneer for over 30 years, an occupation he truly enjoyed. Milton semi-retired from farming and auctioneering and they moved to Starbuck, MN and in 1988, they moved back to Granite Falls, MN where they reside at the present time. On April 1, 2013, Milton entered the Granite Falls Hospital and was transferred to the Granite Falls Manor in early May. Milton enjoyed spending winters in Texas for 27 years, spending time with his family and friends and liked to visit with everyone he met. On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, Milton passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Granite Falls Manor in Granite Falls, MN at the age of 89 years old. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife of 67 years, Mayvis Sickman of Granite Falls; his children, Laurie Gabbert of Wood Lake, Diane ( Alan) Mathias of Hinckley, Susan Knutson of Wood Lake, and Jan (Jim) Long of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Elaine Christensen, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, Elwin and Harold, son-in-laws, Ron Gabbert and Gordon Iverson, and one grandchild preceded him in death. Blessed be his memory.
