Jean Kay Boyum - Echo

Jean Kay (Knutson) Boyum, age 42, of Echo, MN passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in rural Belview, MN. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Jean Kay (Knutson) Boyum was born on April 29, 1971 to Milo and Sharon (Sietsema) Knutson in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Redwood County and grew up on the family farm near Belview. She was baptized and confirmed at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in rural Belview. Jean attended and graduated from Belview Public Schools. After high school, Jean continued her education at Bethany Lutheran College and then Ridge Water College in Willmar, MN receiving an RN degree. On July 10, 1992, Jean was united in marriage to Shawn Boyum at Rock Dell Lutheran Church. After marriage, they lived for short periods of time in Mankato, Tracy, Detroit Lakes, Willmar, and Kerkohoven until settling in Echo in 1997. Jean was a candy striper and worked her way up to an RN at the Parkview Home in Belview over the course of 27 years. Jean was a past member of Rock Dell Lutheran Church and a current member of English Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Over the years, Jean was active as a Lutheran Girl Pioneer Leader, helped with the ladies aide, and was a Sunday school teacher at both Rock Dell and English Lutheran Churches. Jean enjoyed scrap booking, painting ceramics, gardening, camping, genealogy studies, Christmas trees, continuing medical studies, and Bible studies. She liked to collect precious moments and nativity scenes. Jean loved children and taking care of people, and loved to spend time with her family. She especially loved to spread Gods word to all those around her. Jean is survived by her husband, Shawn Boyum of Echo; 3 children, Brittany Jean of Mankato, Heather DeAnna of Echo, and Caleb Allen of Echo; her parents, Milo and Sharon Knutson of Belview; 3 siblings, Milissia (Mike) Isola of Wadena, Michelle (Eric) Breitsprecher of Preston, and Scott (Rebecca) Knutson of Belview; aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her grandparents, Henry and Irene Knutson, and De Los and Florence Sietsema, and one uncle, John Speiser preceded her in death. Blessed be her memory. Jean's final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
