Murl H. Johnson, age 86, of Cottonwood, MN passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Granite Falls Hospital in Granite Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Murl Harlan Johnson was born on October 3, 1927 to Sven and Ida (Ueland) Johnson on the family farm in Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood and attended school in Cottonwood. On August 20, 1954, Murl enlisted in the United States Army and was discharged from service on March 17, 1955. On February 25, 1956, Murl was united in marriage to Yvonne Bjornebo in Bronson, Iowa. They made their home in Cottonwood where Murl worked at the Agronomy Center as a Bulk Fuel Driver for the Cottonwood Coop Oil Company (Cenex) from 1956 to 1992. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood, a member of the Cottonwood American Legion and a past member of the Marshall VFW. Murl enjoyed traveling to visit his children, driving around to check the crops of local farmers, bird watching in his porch, putzing around the garage, and watching television. He will be sorely missed by his two cats, Ole and Lars. Murl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Johnson of Cottonwood; his children, Debra McClintic of Maple Grove, Carol (fiancé Tony Belton) Johnson of Blaine, Tamara (J.D.) Visker of Coon Rapids, Mitchell (Phyllis) Johnson of Norfolk, VA, and Karen (Peter) MacMillan of Annandale; 8 grandchildren, Kendra Randel, Devin McClintic, Ashlee Visker, Jans Visker, Quinten Thompson, Abbie MacMillan, Noah MacMillan, and Emma MacMillan; 6 great- grandchildren, Austin, D.J., Jaxon, Aidan, Jans Franco and Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents, grandson, Kirk Johnson, five brothers, Roy, Kermit, Marvin, Solvin, and Orvid, and one sister, Gladys Huso (Harden) preceded him in death. Blessed be his memory.
