Merryellen Schwahn (Kammer) - Wabasso

Merryellen Schwahn (Kammer), age 100, of Wabasso, MN passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be from 11 – 1 pm on Wednesday also at the church. Merryellen Schwahn was born on September 20, 1913 to Samuel and Ellen (Kline) Wittwer in Orangeville, Illinois. She moved with her family to the New Avon Township in Redwood County. Merryellen was baptized at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in New Avon Township and confirmed her faith at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wabasso. She attended District 7 elementary school and Wabasso Public School. In 1931, Merryellen was united in marriage to Floyd Schwahn in Redwood County and they made their home on the Schwahn family farm where they raised their four daughters. They retired from farming in 1958 and Floyd passed away in 1980. In May of 1991, Merryellen was united in marriage to Clyde Kammer at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church and made their home in Wabasso. Clyde passed away on August 17, 2004. Merryellen was a homemaker and also helped her husband Floyd on the farm for 27 years. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wabasso. Merryellen enjoyed traveling with Floyd to Texas in the winter months, her love of fishing, camping, reading, and her appreciation for nature. She was a collector of rocks, wood, products of the earth which she used to create art. Her life was marked by hard work, many interests, and love of friends and family. Her grandkids adored her especially her smiles and enjoyment of life. On Monday, October 14, 2013, Merryellen passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center in Franklin at the age of 100 years old. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Myra (Armin) Dallmann of Wabasso, Ellen Gunderson of Fort Peck, MT, Janice (Dean) Lawrenz of Thief River Falls, and Fred Dallmann of Thief River Falls; one sister, Enid Guggisburg of Redwood Falls; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her two husbands, Floyd Schwahn and Clyde Kammer, infant son, Dennis, daughter, Mildred, son-in-law, Duane Gunderson, siblings, Clayton, Lewis, Marcella, Elliott, Gertrude, Leonard, Blanche, and Samuel, and granddaughter, Beverly Dallmann preceded her in death.
