Florence Eva Halverson was born on July 21, 1926 to Michael and Eva (Eddy) Grace in Grand Meadow Twp, Mower County, MN. Florence was baptized as an adult at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church on December 1, 1946. She graduated from the Montevideo Public School District in 1944. After graduation, Florence worked as a bank teller at the 1st National Bank until she was married. On February 10, 1946, Florence was united in marriage to Donald Halverson at the parsonage of the Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN. They purchased and moved onto the Grace family farm in Sparta Township of Chippewa County in 1952 and lived there until 1964. In 1964, Don and Flossie purchased more acreage and moved the family to the Stony Run Township farm in Yellow Medicine County until 2011, when they purchased a house in town where they currently reside. Over the years, Florence worked at Home Gas as a bookkeeper and also worked for Family Services as a home health aide, but her true occupation was a housewife, mother, and grandmother. Florence was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church and was active in the church circle groups. Florence and Don enjoyed dancing (polkas and waltzing) in their younger years. Florence enjoyed gardening both vegetables and flowers, but she really found the most joy from her flowers. She enjoyed taking trips to visit and participate in family events and sight-seeing travels, playing buck with friends and family, and always providing coffee and goodies for family, neighbors, and visitors. She also enjoyed bird watching, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, watching Jeopardy, embroidery in winter months, and going to auctions, garage sales, and second hand stores. But Flossie’s family was always her most valued treasure and was of the greatest importance. On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, Florence passed away at her residence surrounded by her family at the age of 87. Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband, Donald of Montevideo; children, Judy Noyes of Ephrata, PA, Ronald (Gloria) Halverson of Stillwater, David (Julie) Halverson of Montevideo, Galen Halverson (and fiancé Cristina) of Clarkfield, Paul (Stephanie) Halverson of Alexandria, and Mary (Edward) Olson of Glenwood; one sister, Marjorie Danielson of Montevideo; 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce Pederson, Pat Halverson, and Myrtle Grace; and many nieces and nephews.
