Joan Susan Frank - Wabasso

Joan “Ma” Susan Frank, age 81, of Wabasso, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, December 03, 2013 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 4 -8 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Visitation will continue on hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Joan Susan Frank was born on September 18, 1932 to Henry and Eva (Rittenour) Bernardy in Vail Township, Redwood County. She was baptized on September 25, 1932 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. She was given her first communion in 1940 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clements and was confirmed in 1942 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. She attended public school and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1950. On August 29, 1950, Joan was united in marriage to Wilbur Frank at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. They made their home in the Wabasso area where Joan was a housewife and mother to sixteen children and her husband of 63 years, Wilbur. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso and a member of the Wabasso American Legion Auxillary. Joan enjoyed playing softball, bowling, Yahtzee, cards, horseshoes, puzzles, canning, and gardening but most importantly, Joan enjoyed entertaining her friends and spending time with her family. Her home was always open. Grateful for having shared in Joan’s life is her husband, Wilbur Frank of Wabasso; her children, John (Charlene) Frank of Wabasso, Mike (Chris) Frank of Wabasso, Diane (Jim) Guetter of Wabasso, Mary (Jeff) Heiling of Wabasso, Suzie (John) VanLoy of Wabasso, Cathy (Todd) Altermatt of Wabasso, Steve (Janell) Frank of Wanda, Janice Baune of Wabasso, Margaret (Jeff) Fennern of Wabasso, David (Terrie) Frank of Wabasso, Ken (fiancé Julie Funk) of Chanhassen, Lori (Steve) Koch of Salina, KS, Dennis (Nancy) Frank of Wabasso, and Vicki (Craig) Irlbeck of Wanda; siblings, Flo Szczesniak of Spicer, Lucille Tercheria of Spicer, BeanBernardy of Wabasso, and David Bernardy of Tucson, AZ; 43 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jim and George, seven brothers, Vincent, Victor, Clarence, Alfred, Jerome, Barney, and Hank, and three sisters, Susan Hammerschmidt, Rose Zieske, and Loretta Miller.
