Aloysius “Alois” James Guetter, age 91 of Wabasso passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 surrounded by his family at the Heritage Prairie Apartments in Wabasso. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 21, 2014 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 pm on Thursday, February 20, 2014 also at the church with a 7 pm prayer service followed by a Rosary led by the Catholic United members. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Alois was born on January 8, 1923 to Joseph and Amelia (Hoffmann) Guetter on the family farm near Wabasso. He was baptized, received first communion, and was confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. He attended St. Anne’s school until the 8th grade. On April 26, 1948, Alois was united in marriage to Elizabeth Plaetz at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. They settled on a dairy farm near Wabasso where together they raised nine boys. Alois and Betty enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing and traveling. They would budget their vacation, by turning around when half the money was gone. In retirement, he kept busy driving school bus for the Wabasso school district and bus for Jackpot Junction Casino. When Betty passed away he moved into the Heritage Prairie Apartments, which he managed for many years. Alois was involved with the Lions, Redwood County Republican party, served on the school board and church council, was a church trustee, a member of Catholic United and Catholic Foresters, and he is a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Alois was a lector and communion distributor. He sang in the church and funeral choirs for all of his adult years. He also received the Bishops Medal of Honor for his dedication and service to the church. Alois is survived by his children, James (Diane) Guetter of Wabasso, Patrick (Judy) Guetter of Redwood Falls, Gregory (Kathy) Guetter of Wabasso, Mark (Helen) Guetter of Wabasso, Arthur (JeanAnn) Guetter of St. Paul, Peter Guetter of Wabasso, Paul (Lisa) Guetter of Hastings, and Matthew (Paula) Guetter of Wabasso; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Katherine Tingelhoff of West Point, NE and Theresa Fischer of Wabasso. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth in 2000, son Daniel in 1972, siblings, Joseph, Cecila Walter, John, George, Anthony, Fr. Mike, Sister Amelia, Annie Walter, and Alphonse. Blessed be his memory. A special acknowledgement to Chris Strom for his friendship and care and to Redwood Falls Hospice. The family wishes that all memorials be sent to Redwood Falls Hospice or the Fr. Diehl Endowment Fund.
