Loraine “Dolly” Clarice Schjenken Mattison, age 82 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Belview, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 pm on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Loraine “Dolly” Clarice Schjenken Mattison was born on October 9, 1931 to Lars and Clara (Gullickson) Schjenken in Belview, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and graduated from the Belview Public School District. After high school, she attended St. Cloud Teachers College and graduated with a BA degree in Elementary Education in 1951. She then continued her education with a BS degree in Elementary Education from Southwest State University in Marshall. She taught in the Slayton, Echo, and Belview school districts until her retirement. On April 5, 1952, Dolly was united in marriage to Maurice Mattison at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. They made their home in the Delhi and Belview area where she continued to teach for about 40 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and Bible study. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary, Numedalslag, and the Red Hat Ladies in both Redwood Falls and Belview. Dolly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved to attend as many of their sporting events as she could. She loved her family and was a very giving person, she always put others first. She also enjoyed singing, playing piano, going to the lake, gardening, genealogy studies tracing her family heritage, and her trips to Norway. On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, Dolly passed away at the Parkview Home in Belview at the age of 82 years old. Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Kari Jo (David) Kringstad of Robbinsdale, Mark Jon (Deb) Mattison of Howard Lake, and David Jon (Deb) Mattison of Delhi; brother, Luverne (Doris) Schjenken of Carson, CA, and sister-in-law, Fern Schjenken of Belview; grandchildren, Ryan (Elizabeth) Mattison, Kelsey Mattison, Alissa Mattison, and Nicholas (Katie) Peters; great grandchild, Teven; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friend, Gordon. Her parents, husband Maurice, brother Richard, and sister Deloris preceded her in death. Blessed be her memory.
