Douglas Ryer - Granite Falls

Douglas Ryer, age 55, of Granite Falls passed away on Wednesday, June 04, 2014 at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield. A Visitation will be held for Doug from 1 – 5 pm on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo. No other services will be held. Burial will take place at a later date. Doug was born June 23, 1959 to Val Gene and Judith (Wilson) Ryer in Montevideo, MN. He fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered by his family and friends as being a very kind, reserved and hardworking man. With a twinkle in his eye, his quick-witted sense of humor made him a fun to be around. Doug had many interests including hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing pool, watching Nascar and his favorite football team the Oakland Raiders. He also enjoyed spending time at the casino. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Sacred Heart, MN in 1977. He served in the National Guard beginning in 1975 until 1979 at which time he went into active duty and was honorably discharged in 1989. He served time in Germany and at Fort Benning, Georgia. He again served in the National Guard for a time until 2005. For the past 10 years Doug was a mechanic with Fagen Inc. of Granite Falls. He leaves behind his daughter Shannon (Donte’) Freeman, and sons James and Jerrad, his grandchildren Chance, Makaylee, Alexis, William, Keyanna and Jamie and the mother of his children Lisa Ryer. He also leaves behind his mother Judith Ryer and brother Donald (Lori) Ryer. He is preceded in death by his father Val Gene Ryer, sisters Valerie Messner and Brenda Luepke, infant brother Delano and infant granddaughter Chasity.
