Marcella V. Meier - Apple Valley/Echo

Marcella V. Meier, 92, of Apple Valley, formerly of Echo passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Centennial House Assisted Living in Apple Valley. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Sunday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be held in the Echo Cemetery. Marcella Verona Meier was born on July 12, 1922 on the family farm west of Echo, MN, to Martin and Olga (Schlenner) Leupke. She was baptized July 29, 1922 by Rev. Geo. W. Swcheitel and confirmed by Rev. C.J. Schrader at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. She attended Bluebird Country School and Echo High School. On July 12, 1939 she was united in marriage to Harold C. Meier. Together they farmed near Echo until 1950 when they moved into Echo. She was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the ladies aid. She was a homemaker, Avon representative, care giver at Granite Falls Manor and after retiring worked at the Senior Dining at the Community Center in Echo. She enjoyed needlework and playing cards and bingo with her friends. She moved to Belle Plaine, MN., in 2001, an area she enjoyed very much. In 2004 she moved (closer to her daughter) to Centennial House (an assisted living facility) in Apple Valley, MN. She attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Burnsville, MN. While Marcella was surrounded by family (and friends) the Lord called her to himself in heaven on October 2nd, 2014 in her room at Centennial House in Apple Valley, MN, at the age of 92 years, 2 months, 20 days. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (Russell) Lemcke of Eagan, MN., her son Dr. Bradley (Joleen) Meier of Watertown, S.D. 5 grandchildren: Mark (Sandy) Lemcke, Lori (Keith) Zierden, Todd (Kimberly) Lemcke, Heather (Freddie) Smith and Jay Meier; 12 great-grandchildren: Amy Meuwissen, Anna (Mike) Lemcke-Fread and Jamie Lemcke, Breana, Zachariah and Mikaela Zierden, Kody, Kole and Karter Lemcke and Quincy, Karsen and Cayden Smith; 5 great-great-grandsons: Jamison Lemcke and Isaac Fread, Andrew Meuwissen, Damion and Demetrius Tucker; 2 sister-in-laws Avis Leupke and Deloris Kremin; 2 brother-in-laws LeRoy and Verlin Meier and several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Harold: her sister Vernice and her brothers Verlin and Donald. Blessed be her memory.
