Evelyn E. Hammerschmidt, age 90, of Wabasso passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, November 17, 2014 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 pm on Sunday at St. Anne’s with a prayer service and CCW rosary being held at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Evelyn Elda Hammerschmidt was born on November 21, 1923 to Ernest and Alma (Raddatz) Kalk in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, and graduated from Redwood Falls Public Schools. She grew up with her parents on their farm south of Redwood Falls. On July 17, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Hammerschmidt at Fort Ethan Allen, Vermont where he was stationed in the military. After Henry’s honorable discharge, they moved to Wabasso where they made their home. Evelyn was a mother and homemaker, and volunteered her time in her community with the American Red Cross, Senior Citizens Center, and as a teacher’s aide at St. Anne’s Catholic School. Evelyn enjoyed word find puzzles, sewing, patching, baking, especially known for her delicious bread, Saturday night Bandwagon, Sunday afternoon old time music, and most importantly loved to spend time with her family, three grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On Thursday, November 13, 2014, Evelyn passed away at the Parkview Home in Belview with her family by her side at the age of 90 years old. She is survived by her one daughter, Jane (Michael) Strand of Lamberton; three grandchildren, Jennifer Strand, Jeanette (Curt) Rohlik, and Jared (Andrea) Strand; six great-grandchildren, Jack Schultz, Collin, Camryn, and Joseph Rohlik, and Summer and Evan Strand; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry “Hank”, one sister, Irene Siekmann, and four brothers, Gilbert, Norman, Harold, and Marvin Kalk. Blessed be her memory.
