Herma C. Hagen, age 100, of Belview, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls surrounded by her family. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 pm on Monday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Herma Charlotte Stensrud Hagen was born on October 2, 1914 to John and Christine (Nelson) Stensrud in Hartland, Minnesota, Freeborn County. She moved with her parents to Delhi in 1919 and lived briefly in Dundas until moving to Echo in 1925. She was baptized in Hartland, MN and confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Belview. Herma graduated from Echo High School in 1932 and from St. Cloud Teachers College in 1934 with a teaching degree. After graduation, Herma taught country school in Echo for two years. On June 28, 1936, Herma was united in marriage to Sidney Ivan Hagen and made their home in Belview where they remained all their married life. After marriage, Herma became a mother and housewife but continued to work as a substitute teacher. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, a member of the Civic Club, Preservation Commission, P.T.A., and Music Mothers. She loved having her family around her. Her love of writing was tapped when she was asked to write the Belview school song. Herma loved being involved in Belview activities, and was so very proud to be a “Belviewite”. Herma enjoyed reading, writing, antiquing, garage sales, watching sports, entertaining her family and friends at her home and at Green Lake. On Friday, November 14, 2014, Herma passed away at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls, Minnesota surrounded by her family at the age of 100 years old. She is survived by her children, Jon (and Gloria) Hagen of Redwood Falls, Joel (and Sharon) Hagen of Spicer, Kari Conway of Belview, and Jeremy (and Joan) Hagen of Belview; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; sister, Inez Kohls of Belview, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sidney Hagen, brother, Clifford Stensrud, sister, Ruth Kohls, and son-in-law, James Conway. Blessed be her memory.
