Louis “Sonny” Bahn, age 94 of Wood Lake passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Posen Township. Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday at the Church with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Bahn was born on December 4, 1920 to Louis Sr. and Elisa Louise (Bruss) Bahn in Wood Lake, Minnesota, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized on January 1, 1921 and confirmed on April 14, 1935 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township and attended St. Luke’s School. He grew up on the Bahn family farm near Wood Lake. On April 15, 1945, Sonny was united in marriage to Lois Timm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township. They made their home on the Bahn family farm until 1960 when they moved to the Timm family farm. In 2001, they left the farm and moved to a house in Wood Lake until 2014 when they moved one last time to the Belview Senior Apartments. Sonny loved farming and was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he was active with the St. Luke’s Mens Club, cemetery committee, and a member of the church choir for over 70 years. Sonny also sang in the Marshall Area Men’s Chorus and loved Barbershop Music. While farming, he also worked at a Lawn Ornament business in Vesta and also assembled farm equipment for Si Raddatz Implement in Wood Lake. Louis loved to fish and hunt, wood working, gardening, spending time wintering at Bit-o-Heaven in Donna, Texas for over 20 years, and spending weekends at Lake Mary in Alexandria. Sonny was known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren as “grandpa Fish”. On Saturday, February 21, 2015 Louis passed away at the Parkview Home in Belview at the age of 94 years old. He is survived by his wife Lois Bahn; children, Kathleen (and Ray) Huston of Buffalo, Gary (and Kathy) Bahn of Alexandria, and Jodell (and Steve) Steffen of Glenwood; 5 grandchildren, Jim (and Dodi) Huston, Jason Huston, Joel Huston, Amy Huston, and Kurby Steffen; 6 great grandchildren, Jamie, Jess, Chloe, and Jonathon Huston, Tanner, and Berkley Steffen; 2 great-great grandchildren, Colton and Thomson Hopkins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild Johnny Ray Huston, brothers Dellas and Marvin, sisters Elsie, Irene, Ethel, Hannah, and Renda. Blessed be his memory.
