Funeral services for Roland “Rolly” Fiene, 93, of Wood Lake, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wedesday, March 25, 2015, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 556 of Wood Lake and VFW Post 3871 of Granite Falls. Roland Louis Fiene was born on May 6, 1921, in Posen Township, to Hugo and Lydia (Bruss) Fiene. He grew up on the family farm, was baptized, confirmed and later married at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Rolly also attended St. Luke’s Parochial School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II, both state side and in the Pacific Theater. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in Echo. On June 22, 1943, he was united in marriage to Viola “Vi” Geistfeld. The couple continued farming and raised their family in Rural Wood Lake. Rolly also worked as a funeral assistant for the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo for over 30 years. He enjoyed helping people and served many families in this capacity. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing, throwing horse shoes and bowling. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and also followed local baseball teams. Rolly was most passionate about his family and his faith in Jesus. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was a charter member of the Wood Lake American Legion Post 556, Granite Falls VFW, and a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He served the church in a variety of capacities including 17 years as treasurer. Rolly died on Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Parkview Home in Belview. He is survived by his wife, Viola, of Wood Lake, children Jerome (and Ann) Fiene of Prairie du Sac, WI, Carolyn (and Lee) DeLaCruz of North Mankato, Shirley (and Jeff) Ackerson of Spicer, Richard (and Shannon) Fiene of Echo, 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Myrl. Blessed Be His Memory
