Harriet Shirley Gjermundson, age 91 of Minneapolis, formerly of Echo, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, rural Echo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Harriet Shirley Gjermundson was born on May 8, 1923 to Theodore and Clara (Hustad) Gjermundson on the family farm near Echo, Minnesota, Sioux Agency Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, attended District #8 country school and graduated from Echo High School in 1942. After High School, she attended Minneapolis Business School. Harriet worked as a secretary for 40 plus years at American Lutheran Church (ELCA) and retired in 1988 from Augsburg Publishing. She also worked for the editor of the Scope Magazine (ALCW) and had the privilege of attending National ALCW Conventions as part of the press. She volunteered for the Day Surgery department at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of Rock Valle Lutheran Church and a former member of Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and helped with the Ladies Aide. She loved to travel, do crossword puzzles, spend time with family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews, and really enjoyed a “good” cup of coffee. Harriet passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the age of 91. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ruth Gjermundson of Granite Falls; niece Beth Gjermundson of Minneapolis, nephews John (and Dorie) Gjermundson of Belview, and David Gjermundson of Echo; grand nephews and nieces William, Jason, and Laura Bates, Timothy and Elisa Gjermundson, and Peter Hodge. Her parents, brother Robert, niece Ellen Hodge, and nephew-in-law Kelly Hodge preceded her in death. Blessed be her memory.
