Lenae Schmidt - Wood Lake

Memorial Service for Lenae A. Schmidt will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be held from 5-8PM on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo. A prayer service will be said at 7:45PM on Monday evening at the funeral home. The Sunset Funeral Association is caring for the family. (507)925-4145 Lenae A. Schmidt, age 72 of Wood Lake, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in Hastings, MN. Lenae Agnes (Cole) Schmidt was born in Wood Lake, MN on August 13, 1942, the third of four children born to Palmer and Agnes (Johnson) Cole. Lenae was baptized on September 25, 1942 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. On September 8, 1962 Lenae married her high school classmate, Kenneth Schmidt at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. From this union, Lenae and Kenneth were blessed with their three daughters, Rhonda Lea, Stephanie, and Valerie. Lenae enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed baking and cooking all of her grandchildren’s favorite treats and was their biggest cheerleader on the sidelines of all their activities. Lenae was an exceptional seamstress. She took pride in sewing many suits for Ken and many baptismal and wedding outfits for her family and friends. She also had a love of music and enjoyed playing the piano. Lenae took comfort in spending time at the family lake home and being Ken’s fishing partner. A highlight of Lenae’s later years was spending time with family while wintering in Texas. After her retirement she enjoyed taking courses at Senior College at Southwest Minnesota State University where she served on the board for curriculum selection. Lenae was a proud employee of North Star Insurance Company from 1976 to 2007. She also volunteered her time for the Wood Lake Legion’s Auxiliary and the St. John’s Evangelical Women’s Society. Lenae is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth; daughters, Rhonda Lea (Glenn) Shemon, Stephanie (Jerry) Lerma, Valerie (Kevin) Mulcahy; grandchildren, Adam (Erin) Shemon, Mitchell (Darcy) Shemon, Brittany Lerma and fiancé, Nick McGeehan, Kirsten Shemon, Geremy Lerma, Loren Mulcahy, Clarian Mulcahy, Joshua Lerma, Dylan Shemon, Dominic Shemon, and Kaleb Mulcahy; great-grandsons, Gavin, Mason, Declan and Parker Shemon; sister, Pat; brother, Darrel (Linda); sister-in-law, Barbara (Dan) Meyer; uncle, Harold Cole; aunt, Elvera Cole; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Agnes; her mother and father-in-law; brother, Dean Cole; brother-in-law, Arnold Aalderks, and many aunts and uncles. Blessed be her memory.
