Lewis H. Bernardy, 83, of Redwood Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Sunwood – Good Samaritan Society in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm on Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and rosary service to follow all at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. A luncheon will immediately follow the Mass at church with burial in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Lewis Henry Bernardy was born on October 3, 1932 to William and Theresa (Plaetz) Bernardy in Sheridan Township, Redwood County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth, attended District # 11 country school, and graduated from Wabasso Public High School. On February 27, 1953, Lewis enlisted into the United States Army in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was honorably discharged at Camp Gorden, Georgia on February 25, 1955. After his honorable discharge, Lewis returned home to the farm near Seaforth and continued farming until his retirement. After retiring, he moved to a home in Redwood Falls where he lived for several years before moving into Johnson’s Park Place in Redwood Falls. In September of 2015, he became a resident of the Sunwood – Good Samaritan Society in Redwood Falls. Lewis was a member of the Seaforth American Legion, Seaforth Beneficial Society, past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth, and currently belonged to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Lewis enjoyed farming, his dairy cows, saying the rosary, flower gardening, helping his longtime friend, Angie Kinney, with mowing and snow removal, and liked to visit with neighbors, friends, and relatives. On Wednesday, December 9, 2015, Lewis passed away peacefully at the Sunwood – Good Samaritan Society in Redwood Falls at the age of 83 years, 2 months, and 7 days. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Delores (Martin) Muetzel of Hutchinson, Leo (Marie) Bernardy of North Mankato, Nicholas (JoAnn) Bernardy of Wabasso, LaVern Bernardy of Redwood Falls, and LaVon Thiel of Redwood Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edward, Herbert, and Donald, sister, Lorraine, and brothers-in-law, Norbert and Clarence. Blessed be his memory.
