Michael E. Straumann, 71, of Belview, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Michael Eugene Straumann was born on Friday, March 3, 1944 to Albert and Olila (Strand) Straumann in Vesta, Minnesota, Redwood County and grew up in the Lucan area. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnsonville Township. He attended elementary school in Lucan and Wabasso, and High School in Walnut Grove. On August 12, 1967, Mike was united in marriage to Barbara Hultquist at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. They made their home on a farm near Belview where Mike worked for several years at the GTA Elevator in Belview and also farmed both crops and cattle. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as a council member and usher of the church. Mike enjoyed softball and bowling in his younger years. He also enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, woodworking, playing cards uptown, driving around the river bottom, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He loved spending time with his friends, family, and grandchildren, often taking the grandchildren on 4 - wheeler rides and making them malts. He gave each of his grandchildren their own special name. On Friday, December 18, 2015, Mike passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall at the age of 71 years, 9 months, and 16 days. He is survived by his wife Barb Straumann of Belview; five children, Doug Straumann of Dodge Center, Rod Straumann of Belview, Karla (Chris) Brennecke of Austin, Mindy (Jared) Amberg of Redwood Falls, and Anita (Vance) Jarding of Alexandria, South Dakota; five grandsons, Carson Brennecke, Thomas, Bryan, and Tucker Amberg, and Lincoln Jarding; one brother, David Straumann; three sisters, Carol (Jerry) Maasch, Karen (Herb) Kreft, and DeeAnn (Jack) Hunter; one sister-in-law, Ardyce Strand; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Doug Strand. Blessed be his memory.
