Grace Lutterman, 99, of Wood Lake, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Seasons Hospice House in Redwood Falls. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Online condolences may be placed at www.sunsetfuneralassociation.com. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Grace was born on her family farm outside of Wood Lake, MN, on October 10, 1916, the oldest child of Theresa (Podoll) and Arthur Hinz. Not expected to survive long past birth, she was baptized that same day. As she often remarked, “I showed them!” Two brothers and two sisters would follow (Norman, Ella, Ruth, & Glen). A bright student through school, she attended Mankato Commercial College for an accounting diploma in 1937. She then worked a variety of service jobs for a few years. On September 29, 1940, she married Harm Lutterman of Lennox, SD and remained in Wood Lake. A son, Garland (Ann), was born on April 11, 1942 and a daughter, Marilyn (Larry), was born on September 13, 1946. In 1957, she returned to work as a bookkeeper for the local creamery. She stayed there through the final transaction when it closed. In 1962 she started as a clerk at the Wood Lake Post Office, where she eventually served as Postmaster until her retirement in 1982. After Harm’s passing in June 1989, she enjoyed trips with her family to Hawaii and Florida. She also enjoyed visiting her children and three granddaughters in the Twin Cities and Milwaukee, WI. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family—which expanded to include 7 great-grandchildren— playing bingo at the Wood Lake Fair, playing cards with the seniors, a good hamburger, chocolate of all sorts, Sudoku puzzles, tending a beautiful garden, and providing for others in her many ways. This included making delicious fried chicken, cookies, pies, and especially her dill pickles. Independent until the very end, she lived in her home until age 97 when she moved into assisted living at Parkwood Apartments in Belview, MN—her first move in over 70 years. Never one to complain. Humble to the core. A servant of God. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Larry) Nelson; daughter-in-law Ann Lutterman; granddaughters Paula (Dan) Stone, Emily (Andrew) Hayes, and Sarah (Jon) Nymo; great-grandchildren Jake and Bryce Stone; Benjamin and Madeline Hayes; and Anja, Sigrid, and Marit Nymo; sisters Ella Bundy and Ruth Just and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. She was lovingly greeted in heaven by her husband of 49 years Harm Lutterman, son Garland Lutterman, brothers Norman and Glen Hinz, sisters-in-law Lillie and Betty Hinz, and brothers-in-law Lee Bundy and Les Just. The family wishes to express gratitude to caring neighbors Larry and Joann Peterson, the nurses and assistants of Parkwood Apartments and Home, and in her final hours the nurses at Redwood Falls Hospital and Seasons Hospice Care.
