Alsace Marie Bjorndahl

Alsace Marie Bjorndahl, 98, of Belview, MN passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Alliance Church in Echo. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm on Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Alsace Marie (Madsen) Bjorndahl was born on Wednesday, January 16, 1918 to Anton and Anna (Torney) Madsen in Morgan, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Brookville Lutheran Church in Brookville Township. She attended Country School District #34 and graduated from Morgan High School in 1936. On December 1, 1938, Alsace was united in marriage to Frank Bjorndahl at Brookville Lutheran Church in Brookville Township. They made their home in Belview where Alsace was a homemaker and raised her 6 daughters. She was very active with Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church, and most recently, Word of Life Church in Belview. She was also involved with the Redwood Valley Saddle Club, an officer with the Rolling Prairie Senior Citizens, and helping her children with their various activities growing up. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, was an extremely good cook, always preparing her children’s’ favorite food when they came to visit, playing cards, especially Buck, and most importantly, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. On Friday, February 19, 2016, Alsace passed away at the Redwood Area Hospital at the age of 98 years, 1 month, and 3 days. She is survived by her six daughters, Patricia (Ken) Jones of Kansas City, MO, Janet (Michael) Doody of Lake City, CO, Donna (Eldon) Nelson of Belview, Bonnie (Steven) Oien of Longville, Kerry Bjorndahl of Redwood Falls, and Jill (Brad) Helgeson of Redwood Falls; eight grandchildren, Tim Olson, Troy Nelson, Jeremy Gilland, Bjorn Doody, James Nelson, Eric Helgeson, Kristen Hadley, and Jennifer Zeug; 23 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, parents, two brothers, Weldon and Neal, three sisters, Loraine, Evelyn, and Marian, and great grandson, Beckett Helgeson. Blessed be her memory.
