Lawrence “Larry” Pitzl Jr., 52, of Wabasso, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM on Monday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and a CCW rosary to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Lawrence “Larry” John Pitzl Jr. was born on Monday, October 21, 1963 to Lawrence and Frances (Petsinger) Pitzl in Marshall, Minnesota. He lived in the Vesta area until 1969 when the family moved to Wabasso. He was baptized at Holy Name Catholic Church in Vesta, and confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. He attended St. Anne’s Elementary School and graduated from Wabasso Public High School in 1982. On December 21, 2001, Larry was united in marriage to Tammy Hoffbeck at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in the Lower Sioux Community. They lived in Wabasso for a few years before moving to a farm outside of Wabasso. Larry worked as a technician at the Wabasso Implement-Kibble Equipment in Wabasso for nearly 30 years. He also helped area farmers with harvest and other various tasks. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and an active member of the Wabasso Fire Department and Ambulance Service. Larry enjoyed working on tractors, bailing hay, farming, bowling, snowmobiling, playing cards, Nascar, and racing stock cars. He was very funny and loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, who would call him papa. On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, Larry passed away unexpectedly at St. Mary’s Mayo Clinic in Rochester at the age of 52 years and 8 months. He is survived by his wife Tammy Pitzl of Wabasso; parents, Lawrence Sr. and Fran Pitzl of Wabasso; children, David (Cally) Riley of Montrose, Daniel Riley of Wabasso, Lyndsee (special friend Cody King) Riley of Marshall, Derek (Alexis Johnson) Riley of Wood Lake, and Ross Eaton of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Riley King, Dominic Johnson, Elle Riley, Asher Johnson, and Adelynn Riley; siblings, Lori (Tim) Jenniges of IN, Brenda Schroeder of Mitchell, SD, Cindy Harrington of Windom, Michael (Christine) Pitzl of Wabasso, Brian (Judy) Pitzl of Clarkfield, and Bradley (Vicky) Pitzl of Wabasso; brother-in-law, Gary (Fleta) LaTurco; sisters-in-law, Terri Ann Carlman, Wanda Blue, and Lin (Greg) Galarean; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Diane Lothert-Larsen, and brothers-in-law, Terry Harrington, David Amaral-Larsen, and John Lewandowski. Blessed be his memory.
