James K. Grothen, 56, of Alexandria, formerly of Hanley Falls, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. A private family memorial service will be held with interment in the Hanley Falls Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. James “Jim” Kenneth Grothen was born on Wednesday, March 23, 1960 to Kenneth and Ardith (Miller) Grothen in Granite Falls, Minnesota and grew up in Hanley Falls. He graduated from Granite Falls High School and attended Willmar Technical College. On July 17, 1982, Jim was united in Marriage to Linda Isaackson. They lived in the Hanley Falls area until moving to Alexandria in 2001. Jim worked road construction over the years for Mooney’s, Mark Sand and Gravel, and Hardrives. He was a past member of the Hanley Falls Fire Department. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and just being outdoors. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He can best be remembered by his dusty cap, pocket t-shirt, and dark tan drinking a mountain dew. On Monday, July 25, 2016, Jim passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the age of 56. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Alexandria; his parents, Kenneth and Ardith Grothen; two children, Derek (Lauren) Grothen of Brandon, MN, and Perry Grothen of Alexandria; two grandchildren, Hunter (age 10), and Kendall (age 5); three siblings, Lynette (Mike) Becker of Chetek, WI, Sandra (Dan) Mock of Hanley Falls, and Pat (Mark) Buysse of Brandon, SD; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Harris, father-in-law, Tom Isaackson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lori (Randy) Schuler, Colleen (Mitch) Olson, Tim (Tammy) Isaackson, and Kenny (Sandy) Isaackson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Blessed be his memory.
