Evelyn Elaine Popkes, 80, of Wood Lake passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Avera Medical Center in Marshall, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Wood Lake United Methodist Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Friday at the church with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Evelyn Elaine (Schaffran) Popkes was born on Wednesday, December 4, 1935 to Paul and Edith (Olson) Schaffran in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and graduated from Wood Lake High School. On August 10, 1957, Evelyn was united in marriage to Meryle Popkes at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Over the years, Evelyn worked at Mid Continent Cabinetry in Cottonwood and the Wood Lake Café. She was a member of Wood Lake United Methodist Church and was active with the Ladies Aid and Auxillary. She also volunteered her time with many of the local community events. She enjoyed collecting cow knick knacks, playing cards, baking, canning and shopping. She also loved to spend time with her dogs and especially her family and friends. On Sunday, September 25, 2016, Evelyn passed away at the Avera Medical Center in Marshall, Minnesota at the age of 80. She is survived by her daughter Deby (special friend Gary Kingsley) Van Eidie of Erwin, SD; grandchildren John (Kim) Van Eidie of Erwin, SD, Angel Anderson of Colman, SD, and Tabitha Coughlin of Erwin, SD; great-grandchildren Landyn Tripp, Brooklyn, Daltin and Payden Coughlin and Bryden Anderson; and many extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Meryle Popkes, her parents and son-in-law Eddie Van Eidie. Blessed be her memory.
