Silas Raddatz, 94, of Wood Lake passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Silas O. Raddatz was born on October 1, 1922 in Redwood County, to Hugo and Cora (Otto) Raddatz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. He attended District 107 country school in Redwood County. He joined the Navy (Seabees) on April 12, 1945, and was stationed in the Philippines and Truk Island during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 7, 1946. On January 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Faith Jeppesen in Garden City, Minnesota. They made their home in Wood Lake. Faith died on July 15, 1993. Silas was owner of West Side Implement. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served as trustee. He served as Mayor of Wood Lake for many years. He belonged to many other organizations including Lions, Legion (served as commander), and Community Club, and always helped with the Wood Lake Fair. On August 26, 1994, he was married to Hazel Johnson in Wabasso. Hazel died November 12, 2007. He is survived by his children and their spouses Nancy Baker of Walnut Grove, Sharon and Terry Hemingsen of Olivia, and Steve and Jan Raddatz of Wood Lake; seven grandchildren Taryn (Ben) Sietsema, Todd (Micara) Baker, Jacey (Dan) Jansen, Ryan (Marissa) Baker, Ian Hemingsen, Trent (Kristy) Baker, and Rianna Hemingsen; eleven great-grandchildren Evyn Sietsema, Tegan, Keeley, and Brekin Jansen, Sophie, Eva, Grant, Nolan, Carson, Lauren, and Bennett Baker; and sister-in-law Darlys Raddatz of Wood Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Bruce, his spouses, brother Alvin, sister Shirley Mancini, and son-in-law Bruce Baker.
