Arlo Paul Zimmer, 87, of Echo, MN passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM on Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7:45 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arlo Paul Zimmer was born on March 2, 1929 to Paul and Augusta (Werner) Zimmer in rural Echo, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. He graduated from Echo High School in 1946 where he excelled in many sports. On June 15, 1952, Arlo was united in marriage to Donna Leupke at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. They were lifelong residents of Echo where they raised their family. Arlo worked construction and farmed in the Echo area, and had a passion for carpentry. He had fond memories of pitching for the Echo Baseball Town team. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and served on Church Council, Echo Elevator Board for 12 years, coached church youth softball. Arlo helped in promoting the Echo Charter School where he built many things for the various fundraisers. He also built the former Hope Market in Echo. Arlo was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards and games with family and friends. They traveled to various states including Alaska. Summers were spent at lake resorts, with the last several years spent at Pelican Lake RV Resort. Arlo loved the community of Echo and was always willing to help others with various wood working projects. On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, Arlo passed away surrounded by his family at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Donna of Echo; children Terry (Deb) Zimmer of Echo, Kathy Purdie of Mankato, Jeffrey Zimmer of Granite Falls and Kristine (Anthony) Maiers of Hutchinson; grandchildren Rachel Zimmer, Whitney (Chris) Enestvedt, Alex Zimmer, Nicholas Purdie, Cody Zimmer, Chase Maiers; great grandson Brayden Enestvedt; step-granddaughter Kristy (Dave) Paulson; step-great grandchildren Anna and Jacob Paulson; brother Bill (Delores) Zimmer and Ranee (Roger) Dahl; Sister- in- law and brother-in-law Marlys and Marvin Timm and sister-in-law Rita Leupke; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Stacy, grandchildren Christopher and Ryan Zimmer, brother-in-law Douglas Leupke and son-in-law Gary Purdie. Blessed be his memory.
