Karen Jo Klein, 71, of Wood Lake, MN passed away at her residence on Sunday, November 6, 2016 surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:45 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Karen Jo (Dahl) Klein was born on December 16, 1944 to Norman and Maxine (Tackle) Dahl in Tracy, Minnesota. She lived in Cottonwood County for one year before moving to Cottonwood, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. She attended and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1962. After graduation, she attended Mankato State University for one year. On November 16, 1963, Karen was united in marriage to David Klein at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. They made their home on a farm in Posen Township. Karen was a cook at Jim’s Café in Cottonwood, worked in dietary for the Avera Hospital in Marshall and also decorated cakes for people in the community for special occasions. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake and helped with the ladies aid. She was also involved with the Yellow Medicine County Pork Producers, Echo/Wood Lake School Board and many area coffee clubs. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, auctions, going to the casino, crafts, collecting Betty Boop, attending out of state family reunions, making lefse and baking, and spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. On Sunday, November 6, 2016, Karen passed away at her residence surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer at the age of 71. She is survived by her husband David Klein of Wood Lake; children Norman (Heide) Klein of Hanley Falls, Katie (Dean) Mielke of River Falls, WI and Warren Klein of Coon Rapids; grandchildren Shane Klein, Maren Mielke and Caleb Mielke; sister Cynthia Trapp; niece Charlene Boggs, nephew Eric Trapp; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Maxine Dahl. Blessed be her memory.
