Gifford M. Liebswager, 92, of Marshall, formerly of Milroy, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM on Thursday at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Gifford Marvin Liebswager was born on September 14, 1924 to Carl and Katherine (Koller) Liebswager in Granite Rock Township, Redwood County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country in Germany before being honorably discharged. On September 1, 1948, Gifford was united in marriage to Lucille Johnson at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy. They lived in Hillsboro, Oregon until 1953 when they moved to the Lucan area. In 1958, they moved to the family farm near Milroy where Gifford lived until moving into the Boulder Estates in Marshall in 2010. He became a resident of Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall for a short time before his death. Gifford was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where he served as head usher for several years. He was a member of the Milroy American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, fishing with the Tofts, going to the casino, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and spending time with his friends and family. On Monday, December 5, 2016, Gifford passed away at the Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall at the age of 92. He is survived by his children Duane Liebswager of Beaverton, OR, Douglas (Mona) Liebswager of Hudson, WI, Nancy (Steven) Thooft of Russell and Curtis (Patti) Liebswager of Thompson, ND; grandchildren Darren Liebswager, Heather Liebswager, Aaron Thooft, Troy Thooft, Ethan Liebswager and Mikal Liebswager; great grandchildren Katriana and Gabe; sister Dolores Baumann; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, one grandson Dillon Liebswager and brother-in-law Bud Baumann. Blessed be his memory.
