Llewellyn “Punky” Hagen, 87, of Wood Lake passed away on December 15, 2016 at the Renvilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church in rural Echo. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Monday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Llewellyn “Punky” Hagen was born on December 13, 1929 to Oscar and Lena (Slettedahl) Hagen in Echo, Minnesota, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed at Echo Lutheran Church and graduated from Echo High School in 1949. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He served in the Korean Conflict where he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. On June 6, 1953, Punky was united in marriage to Janet Bohlman at Granite Falls Lutheran. They made their home in Echo until moving to Wood Lake in 1956. Punky worked construction for most of his life and was most proud of his work with K.A. Thompson and Sons in Cottonwood. He concluded his career of 28 years at the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative in Renville. He was a lifelong member of the Wood Lake American Legion, Veterans Of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order Of Purple Heart and Alcoholics Anonymous. He was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. He enjoyed swimming, hauling scrap iron, dogs, cats, feeding the birds and spending time with his family. On Thursday, December 15, 2016, Llewellyn passed away at the Renvilla Nursing Home surrounded by his family at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Janet Hagen of Wood Lake; children Carol (Lowell) Rogers of Braham, Larry (Kimberly) Hagen of Echo, Deb (Rick) Moe of Spring Valley and Connie (Allen) Kamstra of Willmar; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; siblings Alvhilda (Sis) Smith, Alice Agre, Lyla (Harold) Ilaug, Ordean Hagen, Vivian Ugland and Elwood (Jane) Hagen; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Lena Hagen, daughter Kathy Hagen, and brothers Donald, Willard and Leland Hagen. Blessed be his memory.
