Donald Lester Halverson was born October 17, 1924 to Conrad and Helen (Chamberlain) Halverson in Dunn County, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was baptized June 30, 1937 and confirmed in May 7, 1944. He graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1942. While still in high school Don set out looking for work during the summers and ended up in Clarkfield, MN working as a farm hand for several farmers in that area. After graduation he returned to Minnesota and while working in this area he met and married Florence Eva Grace on February 10, 1946 at the parsonage of the Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN. They purchased and moved onto the Grace family farm in Sparta Township of Chippewa County in 1952 and lived there until 1964 when they purchased additional acreage and moved to the Stony Run Township farm. They resided at the farm until 2011 when they moved to a house in Montevideo. Don farmed and also was an avid conservationist. He was named 1994 Outstanding Conservationist from the Farmer Magazine and was involved with the Lac Qui Parle, Chippewa and Yellow Medicine Soil, Water Conservation District throughout his years of farming and dirt work. He began building terraces on his farm in the 50’s and later built a business of making terraces and doing dirt work with his scraper for many types of agriculture projects.   Donald enjoyed sports of all kinds and participated in basketball, slow pitch softball leagues, horse shoe and pool league. He enjoyed many a fishing trips with family and had great stories to tell about those adventures. Don enjoyed following the Twins, Timberwolves and Vikings. Playing buck was a great winter activity and they enjoyed the company of many a friend or neighbor couple willing to team up with them. Don and Flossie also traveled to keep up with family that moved away and to sight-see along the way. Donald was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church and enjoyed the fellowship of the men’s waffle suppers.   On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Donald passed away at Luther Haven Nursing Home surrounded by family at the age of 94.   Grateful for sharing in his life are his children: Judy Noyes of Ephrata, PA, Ronald Halverson of (Mexico), David (Julie) Halverson of Montevideo, Galen Halverson of Montevideo, Paul (Stephanie) Halverson of Alexandria and Mary (Edward) Olson of Glenwood; one sister, Joyce Pederson of Montevideo: 25 Grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren: sister-in-law, Pat Halverson and many nieces and nephews.   Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Florence, infant daughter, Nancy, brother, Marvin and granddaughter, Sherri Briscoe.
