Eileen Ruth (Bauer) Remmele, age 101 passed away on November 21, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, Minnesota beginning at 2:00p.m. Burial will take place at the Echo City Cemetery following the memorial service. Eileen (Bauer) Remmele was born July 20, 1922 to the Rev. Theodore and Hulda Barbara (Lechner) Bauer, in Mission, South Dakota. Eileen became a child of God through baptism on July 23, 1922 and was confirmed on July 12, 1936 in Akaska, South Dakota. As a redeemed child of God, she made her faith a priority in her life. Because her father was a pastor, the family lived in Mission and Akaska, South Dakota, Hettinger, North Dakota and in 1938 they moved to Echo, Minnesota. Eileen attended Northwestern Lutheran Academy, Mobridge, South Dakota for one year and one year in Hettinger, North Dakota until her father accepted a call to Peace Lutheran, Echo, Minnesota in 1938. Eileen’s mother passed away in 1939 and Eileen was responsible for caring for her younger siblings. In 1940, Eileen graduated as valedictorian from Echo High School. From 1941-1944 Eileen attended Swedish Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota to study nursing and obtained her RN degree in September 1944. Upon graduation from nursing school, Eileen worked as a nurse in the Roseau, Minnesota Hospital. From 1945 until January 1947, she worked at the New Ulm, Minnesota Hospital as the night supervisor. Eileen met her husband Murl H. Remmele in Echo, Minnesota. The couple was married April 20, 1947 at Peace Lutheran, Echo, Minnesota. They resided on the family farm south of Echo, where they raised their family of one daughter and five sons (Linda, Paul, Gary, Philip, Daniel, and Steven.) At the age of 12 Eileen started playing organ for church, including the German Services until they were discontinued. She taught Sunday school and was an active member of Peace Lutheran Ladies Aid. Eileen was well known for the huge gardens she raised and all of the food that was canned or frozen for the family. After the children were grown, Eileen returned to her nursing career and worked as a nurse at the Granite Falls, Minnesota Hospital and retired from nursing following working at the Belview, Minnesota Nursing Home. Eileen and Murl lived on the family farm until they moved to Redwood Falls, Minnesota, in October of 1993. They became members at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls. After Murl passed away January 31, 2001 Eileen continued to live in her own home until September 2003 when she moved into assisted living in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. In September 2018, Eileen moved to assisted living in Belview, Minnesota and in January 2022 she moved into the Belview nursing home. Eileen is survived by her children: Linda Schumacher, (Brookings, SD); Paul and his wife Berdella (Morton, IL); Gary and his wife Becky (Dodge Center, MN); Daniel and his wife SueAnn (Echo, MN); and Steven and his wife Bonnie (Tomah, WI). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Nathan (Julie) Schumacher; Rachel (Kyle) Schaefer; Karla (Pat) McKeage, Michael (Karen) Remmele; Angela (Jason) Bauman; Heather Remmele; Jennifer (Josh) Burton; Heidi, Amanda, Philip, Bridget and Ryan Remmele; 16 great grandchildren; her sister Dorothy Kock and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Murl, son Philip, son-in-law Chris Schumacher; her parents Rev. Theodore and Hulda (Lechner) Bauer, her stepmother Hulda (Martin) Bauer, brothers Otto, Gehard, Hildebert (Paul), Karl and infant twin brothers Edmund and Sigmund Bauer. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran School, Martin Luther College or Bethany Lutheran College.
