Elaine Edith Borning

Elaine Borning, 95, of Echo, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Granite Hospital in Granite Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Wednesday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Echo Cemetery. Elaine Edith (Kletscher) Borning was born on March 29, 1923 to Henry and Ida (Arndt) Kletscher on the family farm near Vesta, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Echo Public School in 1941. After graduation, she attended nurse’s training at the Marshall Hospital and went to work immediately as a practical nurse due to the start of WWII.

On December 7, 1945, Elaine was united in marriage to Glenn Borning at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. They made their home on a farm in the Echo Township until moving into Echo after retirement in 1983. Elaine was a caregiver, raising her children, helping on the farm and worked at the Parkview Nursing Home in Belview for 8 years. She was involved with the Hobby Club, several birthday clubs, bloodmobile, Echo Meal Site, Ladies Aid at Peace Lutheran, American Legion Auxiliary, Parkview Auxiliary and several years as an election judge. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, baking, cooking and most of all spending time with family and attending their events.

On Monday, May 14, 2018, Elaine passed away at the Granite Hospital in Granite Falls, Minnesota at the age of 95.

She is survived by her children Marilyn (Dan) Schmidt of Wood Lake, Beverly Walker of Wautoma, WI, John Borning of Echo, Robert (Ann) Borning of Echo, Joyce (Paul) Arends of Marshall and Loren (Audrey) Borning of Echo; grandchildren Matt (Melissa) Schmidt, Michelle (Rob) Salfer, Amy (Travis) St. Pierre, Heather (Jason) Rokeh, Andy (Nicole) Walker, Timothy (Leslie) Walker, Terry (Kelly) Borning, Kim (Alan) Maag, Julie (Matt) Oien, Chris (Lisa) Borning, Shawn (Stacy Nachreiner) Borning, Blake (Jandra) Kober, Emily (Brandon) Bergman, Ryan (Dawn) Arends, Kristi (John) Wiese, Kendal (fiancé Cory Portinga) Borning, Shane (Katrina) Knutson and Michelle (fiancé Jason Wetsch) Knutson, Laura (Pete) Marston, Melissa (Lucas) Popowski, Joe (fiancé Hannah Springer) Borning, Travis Boecker, Brittany Boecker, Tiffany Boecker; 47 great grandchildren; siblings Ardyce Rudenick, Jeanette (Milan) Stage, Janice (Wallace) Stage and Merlin (Iylene) Kletscher; sisters-in-law Marilyn Kletscher, Arlene Kletscher and Coralie Borning; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, daughters Barbara and Mary, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Borning, son-in-law John Walker, granddaughter Riley Borning, grandson AJ Maag, infant sister Edna, infant brother Lavern, sister Elvira Meier and brothers Myron, Elvern, Clarence and Harold Kletscher.
