Harold Elton Kletscher

Harold Kletscher, 84, of Vesta, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Wednesday at the church with a prayer service at 7:45 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family.   Harold Elton Kletscher was born on August 27, 1933 to Henry and Ida (Arndt) Kletscher in Vesta Township, Redwood County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta and attended Redwood County Country Schools. Harold farmed with his brothers and drove bulk truck. In 1960, Harold became manager of the Scenic City Coop in Vesta. On August 19, 1961, Harold was united in marriage to Marilyn Knudson at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James, Minnesota. They moved into Vesta where Harold continued to work as manager of the Scenic City Coop until buying the business in 1966 and renaming it Harold’s Service. In 1989, after resigning from 27 years on the Vesta City Council, Harold became the Vesta City Maintenance Engineer until retiring at age 70. Harold served on the Vesta Fire Department for 45 years and was also a member of the Vesta Commercial Club and St. John’s Church Council holding various offices. Harold also was janitor and maintenance at St. John’s Lutheran Church for 23 years and continued as bell ringer for almost 30 years. Harold enjoyed vegetable gardening, planting trees, building bird houses and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed tinkering with and could fix just about anything. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His smile when around them was infectious. On Saturday, April 21, 2018, Harold passed away at the Redwood Area Hospital at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Marilyn Kletscher of Vesta; his children Jeffrey Kletscher of Floodwood, Dawn (Richard) Tietz of Morgan, Randall (Erin) Kletscher of Vesta and Tim (Susie) Kletscher of Benson; grandchildren Megan (Nate) Zabel, Lucas (Kassi) Tietz, Amber Tietz, Becca Tietz, Kegan Tietz, Callie Kletscher, Eric Hoium and Elle Kletscher; great grandchildren Serena, Quinn and Holly; siblings Elaine Borning, Ardyce Rudenick, Jeanette (Milan) Stage, Janice (Wallace) Stage and Merlin (Iylene) Kletscher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Edna, infant brother Lavern, sister Elvira Meier and brothers Myron, Elvern and Clarence Kletscher. Blessed be the memory of Harold Kletscher.
