The funeral service for Herbert “Herb” Pool, 88, of Milroy, will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Milroy. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at a later date. Military honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 274 of Milroy. Herb died on Friday, April 14, 2017, at his residence in Milroy under the care of Prairie Home Hospice. Herbert Henry Pool was born on November 6, 1928, in Chandler, MN, to Stephen and Alma (Runge) Pool. He was baptized at Lake Wilson Methodist Church. Herb served in the U.S. Army: three years in Germany and one year in Kentucky before his honorable discharge. On November 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to June Hansen. The couple moved to the Milroy area where he was confirmed and became a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Milroy. Herb worked on several farms before farming on his own. He later worked at the Milroy Coop Elevator for 21 years until his retirement. He was a member of the U.S. American Legion for 40 years and also the Milroy Fire Department. He enjoyed family time, bowling, fishing, playing cards, the daily crossword puzzle, Sudoku, and was an avid reader. Herb died on Friday, April 14, 2017, at his residence in Milroy under the care of Prairie Home Hospice. He is survived by his wife June of Milroy, daughters Vickie (and Dennis) Novak of Hastings, Brenda (and Patrick) Welvaert of Lynd, Judy (and Lyle) Johnson of Broote, Deana (and Nate) Zieske of Alexandria, sons Alan (and Angela) Pool of Milroy and Kevin (and Charlotte) Pool of New Ulm, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three sisters Henrietta Arnt of Tracy, Carol Grundwald of Owatonna and Amy Koepke of Ervin, SD, one brother Robert Pool of Minneapolis, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Alma Pool, sisters Sylvia, Dorothy and Mildred and brothers William, John, George, Steven and Alvin. Blessed Be His Memory.
