Lavern Nicholas Bernardy

Mass of Christian Burial for LaVern Bernardy, 83, of Redwood Falls, will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment with miliary honors will follow the luncheon at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Seaforth, MN. LaVern Nicholas Bernardy was born on July 10, 1940 to William and Theresia (Plaetz) Bernardy in Sheridan Township, Redwood County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth, attended District #11 country school, and graduated from Wabasso Public High School. On October 29, 1963, LaVern enlisted into the Army and was honorably discharged at Fort Bliss, Texas on September 30, 1969. After his honorable discharge, Vern returned home to Redwood Falls to work at Control Data, MPI, Zytec, Artesyn for 38 years and 7 months when he retired on October 21, 2005. Vern enjoyed crocheting many different things. He always looked forward to taking his work to the Redwood County Fair and bringing home many ribbons. He also enjoyed flower gardening, walking and spending time with family and friends. He was also known to have a few cocktails. On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Vern passed away peacefully at Garnette Gardens surrounded by family in Redwood Falls at the age of 83. He is survived by his sisters, Delores (Martin) Muetzel of Hutchinson and LaVon Thiel of Redwood Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edward, Herbert, Donald, Lewis, Leo, Nickolas, sister, Lorraine.
