Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Wabasso.  Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the church with a prayer service at 7:30 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Maynard Andrew Martensen was born to Andrew and Mary (Henning) Martensen, June 25, 1936, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Waterbury Township. He graduated from Wabasso High School in 1954, yet not before a polio diagnosis and spending three months in Sister Kenny during his senior year.  Maynard has since been motivated by faith and grit. On August 20, 1960, Maynard married the “love of his life”, Doris Meier, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. They made their home on the farm, where Maynard earned a living crop harvesting and milking cows.  He also worked at the Sugar Beet Plant in Renville, in Wabasso Public Schools as a custodian and bus driver and for Redwood County, spraying road ditch.  Maynard loved everything about Wabasso and was deeply committed to all the community offered.  He also loved WWE wrestling, lawn ornaments that spun in the wind, family vacations to the lake, playing cards, sending birthday/anniversary cards and decorating the envelopes with loads of stickers and visiting on the phone or in person with family and friends. On Monday, December 18, 2017, Maynard passed away, on the farm in Wabasso, at the age of 81. He is survived by his children Kelly (Jeff) Rohlik of Vesta, Brenda Martensen of Minneapolis and Tiffany (Jamison) Vanden Einde of Le Sueur; grandchildren Katelynn (Joel) Goche, Andrea and Callie Rohlik and Cooper and Vance Vanden Einde; great grandchildren Erika and Madison Goche; sister Doris (Lester) Dallmann, many nieces, nephews and cousins and his feline companion, Clem. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, siblings Arnold, Elfrieda, Leonard, Marjorie and infant brother Melvin. Blessed be his memory.
