Mildred Arends, 96, of Westminster, CO, formerly of Wabasso, MN passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Westminster, CO. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Wabasso and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Wabasso Cemetery at a later date. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Mildred Arends was born on January 31, 1922 to Frank and Martha (Wandersee) Maas in Redwood County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Johnsonville Township of Lucan, MN and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. On September 28, 1941, Mildred was united in marriage to Marvin Arends at Trinity Lutheran Church, Johnsonville Township. They made their home on a farm in Waterbury Township, Redwood County where they farmed. She won prizes for her homemade bread at baking contests. Her hot German potato salad and chocolate chiffon cake were also her specialties. She taught Sunday school for many years and was highly respected by many of her students. After she left the farm in her later years, she lived in New Hope, MN before moving to Westminster, CO where she passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Sunrise Assisted Living at the age of 96. She is survived by her daughter Ardell (Gordon) Lommen of Westminster, CO; grandchildren Cheryl (Bill) Bader of Eden Prairie, Carla (Peter Leppik) Hennes of Minnetonka, Steve Lommen of St. Paul and Siri Lichte of Westminster, CO; great grandchildren John, Stephen and Nicholas Leppik of Minnetonka and Ruby and Adelaide Lichte of Westminster, CO; sisters-in-law Olive Maas, Alice Maas and Arlene Wetter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Martha Maas, husband Marvin, daughter Myra Hennes, brothers Albert, Arthur, Erwin and Edward Maas, sisters Marcella Johnson, Marjorie Schmiesing and Ruth Tuttle, parents-in-law John and Sievie (Raveling) Arends, brothers-in-law Lloyd Johnson, Lowell Schmiesing, Donald Tuttle, Roland Arends, Mike Lange and Bruce Wetter, sisters-in-law Marie Maas, Joan Maas, Marian Maas and Luthera Arnone and nephew Edwin Maas. Blessed be her memory.
