Funeral services for Murl Kuehn, 77, of rural Echo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the Echo Alliance Church. Visitation will be at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The pallbearers will be grandsons, Brandon Goblirsch, Dominic Thomas, and Braden Mead; nephews, Dave Kuehn and Barry Ryks; and friend and fellow farmer, Jimmy Bendix. Murl Duane Kuehn was born on the home farm south of Echo on February 7, 1942 to Gustav and Mildred (Rohde) Kuehn. He was baptized and confirmed in the Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. He attended country school southwest of Echo and graduated in 1960 from Echo High School. He worked as a carpenter, both in high school and after graduation. Murl and Lynn Hughes, his high school sweetheart, were married at the Echo Methodist Church on October 21, 1961. They were blessed with four children: Janelle, Aaron, Jennifer, and Patrick. The family attended the Echo Methodist Church, the Vesta Presbyterian Church, and the Wood Lake United Methodist Church. They have been a part of the Echo Alliance Church for the past 22 years. They lived on farms around the area and in 1983, they moved to the family farm . . . the home of Murl’s birth. Murl was a volunteer fireman for the Vesta Fire Department and was a charter member of the Vesta Lions Club. He served on the board of the Vesta Farmers Elevator and was a supervisor for 28 years on the Echo Town Board. Besides on-going carpentry work, Murl was employed as a diesel mechanic at Schefus Trucking in Redwood Falls and a snow plow operator for the Imes brothers. He was an Archer distributor/dealer from 1983 to the present. Enjoyed among his leisure times were early morning coffee breaks at the elevators in Vesta and Echo. Murl was a caring neighbor and community member, who was renowned for his capable, willing hands, as well as for spearheading church and community projects. Murl was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. Then, at home, in the presence of his family, Murl slipped peacefully away to Jesus at 11:07 p.m. on January 17, 2020. Murl is survived by Lynn, his wife of 58 years; children: Janelle (Bob) Goblirsch of Redwood Falls, Aaron (Chas) Kuehn of Echo, Jen (Chad) Revier of Sunburg, and Pat (Kari) Kuehn of Clarkfield; grandchildren: Brandon, Mindy, Jamie, and Gina Goblirsch, Tanisha (Kris) Selbrade, Taneka (Joe) Richmond, Dominic Thomas, Emma, Ava, Rya, and Madi Revier, Braden Mead, and Aaden, Hayden, and Bentley Kuehn; great grandchildren: Kris Jr, Kennedy, and Kallie Selbrade; brothers: Marlin (Mary) Kuehn of Youngsville, NC, and Marvin (Vicky) Kuehn of Redwood Falls; sisters, Elaine Schlenner of Woodbury, Mavis Byers of Austin, Marlice (Gary) Halvorson of Lewisville, NC, and Marlene (Dennis) Ryks of Renville; brother- and sisters-in-law, Dave and Dianne Hughes of Hugo and Susan Hughes of Georgetown, TX; many Kuehn and Rohde cousins; and innumerable friends from throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gustav and Mildred; brother: Melvin; parents-in-law: Leland and Helen (Moody/Daby) Hughes; niece: Lori Kuehn Williams; nephews: Joey Kuehn and Jay Hughes; and brothers-in-law: Don Schlenner, Don Byers, and Brent Hughes.
