The funeral service for Myrthle Hubbard, 96, of Granite Falls, formerly of Wood Lake, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Wood Lake. Myrthle passed away peacefully at the Avera Granite Falls Care Center in Granite Falls, MN, with her son David, daughter Lynette (Hubbard) Burns by her side. She spent her last few years at Granite Falls Care Center in Granite Falls, where she had many friends. Myrthle always had a smile for the nurses and loved hanging out at the front desk with them. She could also give out the loudest whistle when she wanted your attention to just say “Hi!” Myrt was born on January 20, 1927, in Wood Lake, MN, to William and Elsie Brauer. She was baptized by her grandfather, J. Brauer on January 30, 1927. She was confirmed on May 12, 1940, by F. E. Traub and on September 28, 1947, was married to Fay E. Hubbard at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, MN. Fay and Myrt started farming in spring of 1951 on the P.F. Hubbard farm and continued farming until 1989 when Fay suffered a stroke. They retired to Wood Lake where Fay suffered a second stroke and passed away on September 29, 2010. Myrt continued to live in Wood Lake until 2018 when she moved to Granite Falls Health Care Center after breaking her hip. Myrt’s love in life was her family. Her favorite hobby was fishing with Fay. They also loved to travel all over the U.S., especially out West and Arizona. She loved gardening and had beautiful flowers. Myrt loved singing in the church choir. She spent many summers at her daughter’s lake cabin and spent winters with her in Connecticut. Myrt enjoyed many cross country trucking trips with her son, Dave. She remained feisty, happy and funny and was a great friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Myrt is survived by her son, Dave Hubbard, daughter Lynette (Hubbard) Burns; six grandchildren Cory, Eric and Shane Hubbard and Sarah (Hubbard) Schlemmer, Carissa Burns and Jenna (Burns) McGuire. Also survived by 13 great-grandchildren Jaci, Zane and Ava Hubbard, Zach, Seth and Hailey Hubbard, Tyler Lundin, Bolden Jacobson, Hudsen and Samantha Hubbard, Anna and Ellie (Burns) McGuire and Caila (Burns) Romano; one great-great-grandson Declan Lundin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bernhard Brauer, her husband Fay and one great-grandson.
