Nicholas John Bernardy (79), devoted husband of Jo Ann (Rohlik), loving father to his children (5) and grandchildren (5) left this earth surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Nick was born to William and Theresia (Plaetz) Bernardy of Seaforth on September 10, 1937. Named after his grandfather, a pioneer of Seaforth. He often talked about his grandpa and how he used his cane to rope little Nick in for closeness. He was the eighth of 10 children. Born and raised a farmer, he married his love, Jo Ann, on June 5, 1971. They moved to a farm in Waterbury township where their family quickly grew to five children. In 1995, when Nick and his brother Lewis retired from farming, he moved with Jo Ann to Lucan. Nick worked as a full-time welder at Chassis Liner for several years. After retirement they lived in Wabasso at the Heritage Prairie apartments and moved to Minneapolis in November of 2016. A farmer of the fields, perfectionist by blood, Nick worked hard every day until he no longer had the strength to do so. He was a simple, honest, selfless man who loved his family. A man of faith and friendship. “He sure could talk,” was his favorite quote when reasoning why he couldn’t get away from a conversation. The classic Minnesota long goodbye was typical whenever we would visit. Farming was the good old days; he often said his favorite activity was walking beans or picking rocks with the kids. He enjoyed playing BINGO, classic country music, Molly B Polka Party, and watching the Twins baseball games with Jo Ann. He was truly kind and gentle natured until the very end. Nick leaves behind his bride of 46 years, Jo Ann of Minneapolis, his son and daughters Maria Bernardy of Minneapolis, Theresa (Brad) Gulbranson of New London, David Bernardy of Apple Valley, Anne (Kirt) Anderson of Coon Rapids, and Sarah (Ben) Broman of Burnsville, his beautiful grandchildren Gavin, Lily, Dylan, Keegan, and Mya, siblings, Delores (Martin) Muetzel of Hutchinson, Leo (Marie) Bernardy of North Mankato, LaVon Thiel of Redwood Falls, LaVern Bernardy of Redwood Falls, two sisters-in-law, Alice Zihlke and Marian Bernardy, and many nephews, nieces and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William & Theresia Bernardy, brothers Donald, Edward, Herbert, Lewis, and sister Lorraine (Norbert) Frericks brother-in-law Clarence Thiel, and sister-in-law Jeanette Bernardy.
