Sharon Ottoson was born April 8, 1935 in Cavalier, North Dakota to Grant and Frances (Parker) Stemm. Most of her growing up years were spent in Granite Falls and later Redwood Falls. She and her four sisters Margaret, Janice, Mary and Patricia and brother Jack were a lively crew. When Sharon was a young girl, the family began to attend the Baptist church of Granite Falls. Sharon accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. Jesus walked with her through the many joyful and difficult times in her life and brought her safely home. Sharon graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1953. Shortly after high school she was introduced to a handsome young farmer named Eugene Ottoson. They began dating at the roller skating rink in Marshall. Roller skating was a special pass time for them, one they later shared with their children. Sharon and Eugene were married August 13, 1955 in a double wedding with her sister Margaret and Gerald Harpham at the Baptist church in Granite Falls. Gene and Sharon began their married life on a farm west of Vesta. They had three children, Sheryl, Thomas, and Kristin. Sharon and Gene’s home was always a welcoming and cozy place where everyone felt at home. All who visited were treated to Sharon’s wonderful cooking. They lived there together until Eugene’s passing in 2014. They were members of the Echo Alliance Church where Sharon was active in many ministries. Sharon played organ and was a Sunday school and Pioneer Clubs teacher. She was a member and an officer of Alliance Women and participated in various Bible Study groups. Unofficially, she was always available to bring food and cheer to those going through difficult times. Her ministry of hospitality also took place in her home as she welcomed many foster children, visiting missionaries, and neighbors. Cooking, baking, quilting, reading and traveling were hobbies that made life more enjoyable for Sharon. Sharon was a homemaker and secretary but to many people, the title that best defined her was friend. She was a true friend and highly valued those relationships. Kidney Disease entered her life 16 years ago. She carefully and bravely managed this difficult disease over the years. Sharon passed away on June 23, 2018 with family by her side at the home of her daughter and son in law, Sheryl and Kimm Jacobson, near Clarkfield. She had lived in their home since September 2017. Sharon is survived by her children Sheryl (Kimm) Jacobson of Clarkfield, Thomas (Krista) Ottoson of Robinsdale, and Kristin (Dalen) Roe of Ortonville; Grandchildren, Bjorn and Solveig Ottoson, Brigetta and Keanon Cooper, Chelsey Loeffers and Dan Roe, Ben, Mike and Nathan Roe; Great grandchildren Isaac Ottoson, Keanon Cooper II and Hazel Roe; Sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Gerald Harpham, Janice Carlson, Mary and Clair Thomas and Patricia Doughty; nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her brother John Stemm, her parents, Frances and Grant Stemm, and her husband, Eugene Ottoson.
