Steven Pottratz, 54, of Wood Lake, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Steven DeWayne Pottratz was born on September 4, 1962 to Norman and Dorothy (Kautz) Pottratz in Flandreau, South Dakota. He was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church in Wood Lake. He attended Wood Lake Public School. Many of Steven’s friends called him “squealer”. LW Hagen taught Steven how to drive and scrap iron. Steven worked at West Side Implement in Wood Lake as a driver and mechanic. He also worked for his dad driving truck until his career was cut short when he became blind. Steven enjoyed car racing, mud racing, restoring old vehicles, going to car shows, collecting pedal cars, and being with his friends and family. On Saturday, July 29, 2017, Steven passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield at the age of 54. He is survived by his mother Dorothy Pottratz of Wood Lake; brother Roger (Loretta Stapleton) Pottratz of Wood Lake, sister Karen Andrade of Granite Falls; nieces and nephews Robert, Roberto “ Bobby”, Rosita and Nikki; service dog Koby and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Norman, five uncles, one cousin, and his two favorite service dogs Baker and Clyde. Blessed be his memory.
