Steven Reiten

Steven W. Reiten age 55 of Wood Lake, MN died Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Granite Falls Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, July 15, 2019 at the United Methodist church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be held in the Wood Lake Cemetery at a later date. The Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association is handling the arrangements for the family.Steven Wayne Reiten was born September 22, 1963 to Wayne and Lois (Helvig) Reiten in Granite Falls, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and grew up on the family farm north of Wood Lake, MN in Wood Lake Township. After graduating from Echo-Wood Lake High School in 1981, he attended Canby Vo-Tech, graduating in Agricultural Production and Agricultural Business.Other then his time in Canby, Steve lived in Wood Lake his entire life and forged a bond within the community, his church and his family. He served on the Wood Lake Fire Department for 22 years, 15 years as an officer and 9 years as Fire Chief. He was a First Responder and EMT with the Wood Lake First Responders for many years and also served on the Yellow Medicine County TRT. Within his church, Steve served as Chairman of the Advisory Board and was Treasurer of the church. He was also the Secretary/Treasurer of the Wood Lake Cemetery Association. Besides owning and operating Reiten Insurance Agency in Wood Lake, Steve also farmed his family home place for 30 plus years. Steve worked as an integral part of the Dave Schwerin farming operation and became a close and personal friend to the whole family.He had many interests including ATV’s and trail riding, firearms, and his love of farming. He very much enjoyed spending time with his nieces, family and friends.Steve was a very caring and giving person who helped out wherever he could. He assisted his parents with many of their needs as they grew older. On Tuesday, July 9, 2019 Steven died at the Granite Falls Hospital at the age of 55. It is in keeping with his caring and giving nature that Steve has chosen to be an organ and tissue donor that will continue to help countless others.He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Lois Reiten of Wood Lake, MN; one sister, Cathy (Brian) Knutson of Lakeville, MN; two brothers, Trevor (Shelly) Reiten of Hutchinson, MN and Scott (Kristen) Reiten of Eagle Lake, MN; Nieces, Jasmine (Frank) Burmis, Chelsea, Jenna, Hailey, and McKenna Reiten; Aunts, Uncles, cousins and many friends.He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie, and both sets of grandparents, Melvin and Anna Mae Reiten and Oscar and Bella Helvig. He will be greatly missed.
