Thomas “Tom” Johnson, 83, of Belview, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Parkview Home in Belview. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family.   Thomas Johnson was born on November 13, 1934 to Oscar and Gladys (Strandjord) Johnson in Belview, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed on May 29, 1949 at First English Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1953 and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for painting and paper hanging. On November 3, 1956, Thomas was united in marriage to DeLores (Hetle) Johnson at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, rural Echo. They made their home in Belview where Tom worked over 60 years as a painter and decorator. After retirement, Tom worked for 5 years as a rural mail carrier. He was mayor of Belview for two terms, spent 17 years with the Belview Fire Department and Ambulance Service, past president of the Parkview board and member of the Belview Booster Club for 12 years. He enjoyed restoring their Victorian home, playing old time music on his accordions, browsing antique shops, playing cards with the guys, tinkering on his “Model A”, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On Saturday, June 30, 2018, Tom passed away at the Parkview Home in Belview at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife DeLores of Belview; children Tim (Deb) Johnson of Redwood Falls, Scott (Kathy) Johnson of Olivia, Lisa Wright of Redwood Falls and Pat (Deb) Johnson of Belview; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Gleva Krause, Joan Hildahl and Becky (Truman) Homme; sister-in-law LaVonne Johnson; brother-in-law Gary Hetle, and sister-in-law Diane (Butch) Schulte; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend Stan Johnson, who also hand crafted his urn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David, Dick, Orland and James Johnson, brothers-in-law Charles Krause, Marvin Ellingboe and Howard Hildahl, and best friend Floyd Abrahamson.
