Verna Olson

Verna Olson, 92, of Echo, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017 at the RenVilla Health Center in Renville. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Rock Valle Lutheran Church, rural Echo.  Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM on Thursday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family.   Verna Idele (Lecy) Olson was born on January 1, 1925 in Sioux Agency Township, rural Echo, Minnesota to Arthur and Julia (Imes) Lecy. Verna graduated from Echo school.  Following graduation, she worked in Minneapolis making bullets and hydraulic lifts for airplane wings to be used in the War.  She returned home after WWII was over. On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thelmer (Babe) Olson and they made their home on the Olson home farm, rural Echo. They had four children.  After her children were raised she worked at the Belview Nursing Home for four years and later for the post office in Echo for twenty years.  Verna enjoyed raising and preserving vegetables and fruit from her garden.  She thoroughly enjoyed raising and arranging flowers.  She had a green thumb and could make anything grow and flourish.  Some of her favorite past time activities included reading, embroidering, playing cards, games and especially seeing and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna was a life-long member of Rock Valle Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She was an active member of WELCA and would help hand-stitch quilts for the annual mission sale in June. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Janet Brennecke, twin siblings in infancy, brothers Irvin (Lillian), Aldie, (Ethel), Roy (Audrey), and Lawrence Lecy, and sisters Bernice (Sulvan) Saby and Clarice Lecy as a small child. She is survived by her children David (Ardyce) Olson of Nerstrand, Duane (Robin Feldman) Olson of Renville and Linda (O.E.) Lerud of Echo; grandchildren Michael Brennecke, Steven (LyNelle) Brennecke, Taylor and Nathen, Christopher (Karla) Brennecke and Carson, Aaron (Jodie) Olson, Madison, Analise, Charli, Sonja Olson (Brian Kubinski) and Dante Cannon, Ryan Olson, Chad (Susan Nelsen) Lerud, Sydney and Colton, Clifton Lerud, Corey (Jessica Brucker) Lerud, Wesley (Sydney) Olson, Drake and Aurora, and Tiffany Olson; sister Julia Ann (Gunval) Knudson, sisters-in-law Shirley Lecy, and Evie Olson, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, family and friends.
