Willard Viergutz, 87, of Echo, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his residence in Echo. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Echo Alliance Church in Echo. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Wednesday with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Echo Alliance Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Echo Cemetery. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association is caring for the family. Willard Raymond Viergutz was born on November 27, 1930 to Bruno and Sadie (Werner) Viergutz in Echo Township, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Belview Country School. On April 28, 1962, Willard was united in marriage to Bonnie Bue at Stony Run Lutheran Church near Granite Falls, Minnesota. They made their home on a farm near Echo where Willard farmed his entire life. In 2005, they left the farm and moved into Echo. He was a member of Word Of Life Lutheran Church in Belview. Willard had a love and passion for farming, and enjoyed playing and watching sports, listening to Old-Time music, dancing, watching Wheel Of Fortune, Tinkering with various things, driving tractors, following the commodities markets and spending time with his family and grandchildren. On Thursday, April 26, 2018, Willard passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Echo at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Viergutz of Echo; three children Christine (Jim) Posusta of Glencoe, Douglas (fiancé Liz) Viergutz of Echo and Charles Viergutz of Hector; five grandchildren Shauna (fiancé Colton) Kruzel, Alexandria (fiancé Tyler) Thompson, Kaily, Anna and Xavery Viergutz; three great grandchildren Levi Plendl, McKayla Kruzel and baby Kruzel; sisters Valeria Loges, Sylvia Novak and Ruth Gorder; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Justin Posusta, brothers Lyle and Dennis Viergutz, sister Marilyn Tomniczak, and brothers and sisters-in-law Artis Viergutz, Frank Loges, Margie Viergutz, Steve Tomniczak and Clair Gorder.
