Erna Elizabeth (Hengel) Larsen, age 96 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Lucan, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 pm on Tuesday at the church with a 5:30 pm prayer service followed by a rosary service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Cemetery in Lucan following the luncheon. Erna Elizabeth Hengel was born on March 22, 1918 in rural Redwood County to John and Genevieve (Krieser) Hengel. She was a 1936 graduate of Milroy High School. On June 15, 1937 she was united in marriage to Lynden Larsen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy. They made their home on the Larsen family farm for 28 years near Lucan. In 1965, they moved into Lucan, and she lived there for 35 years. She has lived the past 13 years in Redwood Falls. Erna’s greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved getting together for all occasions, especially Christmas. She valued all the friendships she had with so many people over the years. She was always a caring, kind, and loving person. Her faith was very important to her and her daily prayers were a must. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan and later a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls were she was active with the Christian Mothers, CCW, and also taught religion at her home. Erna also enjoyed reading, making quilts, and traveling. On Tuesday, June 10, 2014, Erna passed away at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls at the age of 96 years old. She is survived by her 5 children, Colleen (Tom) Zupfer of New Ulm, Marg (Larry) Weber of Sanborn, Joyce (Steve) Gorres of Redwood Falls, Gail (Steve) Fischer of Wabasso, and daughter-in-law, Judy Larsen of Stewartville; sister-in-law, Erma Hengel of San Diego, CA; 17 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lynden Larsen on January 26, 1989, son, Lynn Larsen, daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Wayne Kramer, 8 brothers, Reinhold, Adolph, Clarence, Frank, Lawrence, Edward, Norbert, and Melvin, and 3 sisters, Martha Wagner, Emma Blankenhagen, and Hilda Thomas. She was the last of her family. Blessed be her memory.
